PIL seeks polls for Andhra Pradesh rural bodies
Hyderabad: A PIL has been moved before the Hyderabad High Court, seeking to direct the AP government to hold elections to the Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACS), District Cooperative Central Banks (DCCBs) and the AP Cooperative Bank (APCOB) of the state. Mr K. Balakrishna, who retired as manager of DCC Bank’s Eluru branch, moved the plea urging the court to quash the amendment made to the AP Cooperative Societies Act by the state government, extending the term of the elected bodies of the cooperative banks for two years.
He told the court that the term of the elected bodies of the cooperative banks has ended in January 2018 and the state government extended their term by one year in two steps and then amended the Act to extend the their term for a period of two years.
He submitted that the action of the state government contrary to the provisions of the Cooperative Act and in fact it was mandatory for the authorities to hold the elections before January 30, 2018. He brought to the notice of the court due to not holding the elections to cooperative societies and banks, the state was losing Rs 500 crore under the Vaidyanathan Package and it causing the adverse affect on the cooperative societies, banks and farmers.
