Kozhikode: LIFE project hit over land issue

Initiative completed over 1,390 houses.

Kozhikode: The corporation's failure to identify land for the construction of houses for poor under the state government'sflagship scheme,Livelihood Inclusion and Financial Empowerment (LIFE), has hit the project. The corporation has urged the public to donate land for thepurpose.

So far, the construction of 1,390 houses has been completed in the district. The LIFE mission is divided into two phases. In the first phase, thecorporation provided financial support to homeless families which have land. The corporation could not identify land for the second phase meant for families which do not have land and homes.

Mr Ramsy Ismail, Life Mission coordinator in the city corporation, said, "nine people have expressed willingness to hand over land to the civic body . But these lands have no proper road access and are closed from all sides," he said.

As per rule, a five-metre-wide road is necessary for any construction to allow transport in case of mishaps. "Without the no- objection certificate from the fire and safety department, we are unable to construct houses. There-fore, the needy people are still waiting for homes," he added.
