HC vigilance moots action against officer

Kochi: The High Court registrar (Vigilance) has called for stringent action against the court officer concerned over the disappearance of files on the Malabar Cements corruption case. The officer has committed serious error by failing to keep the files safely, the report submitted to the chief justice stated.

A single bench of the High Court had ordered a probe into the disappearance of three sets of files Kochi on the corruption scandal in the state government-owned Malabar Cements Ltd. The files missing from the court records comprised 51 documents and the majority of them were notes prepared during the tenure of the UDF government recommending a CBI probe into the scam.

The report of the Vigilance registrar has also called for installing CCTV cameras in more places connected with record-keeping. The movement of the files also needed to be recorded properly, the report said.
