Harmony award by Satnam Singh father

1st award will be presented on Aug.4, 2019, in Kerala.

Kochi: Harinder Kumar Singh, the father of Satnam Singh who died after being arrested from Mata Amritanandamayi Ashram in Kollam six years back, has announced a scholarship and award in his name.

Academically outstanding students belonging to economically and socially weaker sections will qualify for the scholarship and individuals and institutions working for religious harmony for the award.

Mr Singh told reporters in Kochi on Saturday that the Satnam Singh Sadbhavana Award will carry a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh. The first award will be presented on August 4, 2019, in Kerala.

He also announced the formation of the Sadbhavana Education Trust to manage the award and the scholarship, based in Delhi.

The money needed for the award will be raised from the compensation amount to be paid by the government and the family property in the name of Satnam, he said.

The fight for a CBI probe into the death will be pursued in Delhi and Kerala, he added.

A native of Gaya district in Bihar the 25-year-old was found dead in the cell of the mental asylum in the state capital on August 13, 2012. He was arrested on August 1.
