Where are heritage panels, HC asks Telangana government

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Hima Kohli and Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy directed the government to place the pertaining GOs

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court sought to know from the state government whether it had fully constituted designated bodies like Telangana State Heritage Committee and Greater Hyderabad Heritage Committee.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Hima Kohli and Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy directed the government to place the GOs related to the constitution of heritage committees.

The bench was dealing with a petition by BJP leader Perala Shekar Rao complaining about the inaction on the part of the state government and HMDA to stop demolition of rock formations at Kokapet, Rajendranagar Mandal, covering Sy. No.s 239 and 240, near Movie Towers.

The petitioner's counsel submitted that though the representations to protect rock inscriptions, there was no response from the government.

Counsel for HMDA submitted that those rocks mentioned by the petitioner were not part of heritage rocks. He said that originally 25 rock formations were identified as heritage rocks. If the rocks mentioned by the petitioner were described as heritage, then HMDA was ready to protect them.

It was then that the court wanted to know the existence of heritage committees and directed the government to place records pertaining to them.
