Kochi: A portion of a newly-tarred road caved in on Thursday, resulting in a goods-laden tempo getting overturned and falling into a water-laden field near-by.
The mishap happened at 11 am when the vehicle was proceeding through the Mannukavu Temple Road near Kangarapaddy.
“A side of the road caved in due to the weight of the goods-laden tempo. The tempo fell into near-by water-body. The driver escaped with minor injuries,” police said.
According to local residents, the road was repaired and fully tarred only a month back. “The side portion of the road was concreted to prevent it from caving into the water body. However, the poor quality of work has resulted in the portion getting caved in. Authorities should immediately strengthen the side concrete wall,” said Anil Janardhanan, a local resident.
