Hyderabad: Install proper speed governors, reminds RTA

The transport department has made these speed limiting devices mandatory, but they must be approved by the transport commissioner.

Hyderabad: The Road Transport Authority once again issued a notice on Thursday that only speed governors with specifications cited by the transport department must be installed.

The notice was necessary because though speed governors were made mandatory in school buses and other transport vehicles in 2015, owners are installing unauthorised gadgets. Thursday’s order has made speed governors compulsory for all transport vehicles, apart from two-and three-wheelers, fire tenders, ambulances and police vehicles.

The transport department has made these speed limiting devices mandatory, but they must be approved by the transport commissioner. The approved list of manufacturers and dealers is on the website of the department.

Deputy transport commissioner K. Papa Rao said speed governors must meet certain specifications. “We give permission to dealers who meet the standards. When the vehicle comes for fitness certification, and we find that the speed governor is not of the approved standard, we will not give the fitness certification.”
