28,671 houses for cyclone Gaja affected families soon: Dy CM
Chennai: The State government will construct 28,671 individual houses besides multi-storied units, to the families displaced by cyclone Gaja, soon, at an estimated cost of `1,742.22 crore, Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam has said.
Responding to a special call attention motion moved by the DMK's Kilvelur MLA U. Mathivanan, in the Assembly House on Thursday, Mr. Panneerselvam said these houses would be built through the Slum Clearance Board in Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Pudukottai districts.
In Nagapattinam district alone, the government would build 7,458 individual houses and 5,308 multi-storied units for Rs 776.04 crore in 12 towns. The multi-storied buildings would be raised ground plus two floors with each unit having 400 square feet area.
Housing units would also be constructed on 300 sq ft area at an estimated cost of `2.1 lakh and the work could begin soon. Taking into account the urgency, the projects would be completed promptly, Mr. Panneerselvam said.
About 1,217 individual houses and 960 multi-storied units in Thanjavur and 5,502 individual houses and 4,284 multi-storied units in Tiruvarur district and 2,518 individual houses besides 1,424 multi-storied units in Pudukottai distrtict would be constructed.
