SCB deletes 28,123 from voters list after Supreme Court order
Hyderabad: Following Supreme Court orders, the Secunderabad Cantonment (SCB) has deleted the names of 28,123 voters in the eight wards from the list as they were encroachers of defence land.
A large chunk of deleted voters were from Annanagar Ward 2, 108 Bazaar and Sainagar.
According to the SCB chief executive officer, a total of 1,108 names were deleted from Ward 1, 17,687 from Ward 2; 3,037 from Ward 3, 519 from Ward 4, 2,229 from Ward 5, 965 from Ward 6, 1,585 from Ward 7 and 993 from Ward 8.
The Secunderabad CEO informed, “In the last elections, the total number of voters were 92,000. This increased to 1.91 lakh with new additions. Following a drive, the board has deleted 28,137. The current number of voters in Secunderabad Cantonment stands at 1.63 lakh.”
The CEO said those whose names have been deleted can file their objections within a month. The SCB invited suggestions, objections and advise on the voters list for a period of one month.
The move comes after the SCB received a copy of a Supreme Court order which stated that persons who are living in the cantonment area in illegally constructed houses which are not assigned any number will not be entitled for inclusion in the electoral roll to be prepared in accordance with Rule 10 (3) of the Cantonment Rules.
