Vijayawada: An expert panel has told the Medical Council of India to develop a national policy to address issues concerning students with specified disabilities. The panel was set up to draw guidelines for the process.
The panel has suggested to the MCI to take up the cause with the relevant authorities. The committee was headed by Dr Ved Prakash Mishra.
The panel has recommended steps to ensure accessibility, reasonable accommodation, non-discrimination for persons with disabilities, services and the built environment and their participation in social life.
The panel mentioned the observations made by Dr Radhika Tandon, ophthalmic expert, that “some checks and measures to safeguard against the problem of malingering or wilful attempt on part of persons to gain higher percentage or lower percentage to gain reservation or become eligible needs to be developed and put in place.”
