Every fourth metro pier to get vertical garden soon

In the past, BMRCL had permitted the licensee to put advertisement panels on all the piers in the corridor.

Bengaluru: BMRCL has issued a notification for the selection of a licensee for advertising on the Piers and Portals at Reach 3 & 3A and Reach-4 of Namma Metro Rail Project through a open bids. In the past, BMRCL had permitted the licensee to put advertisement panels on all the piers in the corridor. However, from this tender onwards, it has proposed to promote the Garden City brand of Bengaluru by introducing vertical gardens on every 4th pier. “In Reach 3 and 3A, we have 357 piers of which 62 piers will have vertical garden and in Reach 04, we have 192 piers of which 34 will have vertical gardens. It is not possible to grow vertical gardens on piers below the stations as the entire area is completely devoid of sunlight. Instead of growing plants, BMRCL is thinking of putting up art installations in the medians there,” a BMRCL official said. “Vertical gardens can cover the concrete structure and make it attractive. Though vertical gardens appear a simple solution to mask the concrete structure, it needs professional help to sustain it over a period of time. The licensee has to engage the services of professionals to develop and maintain the vertical garden,” he said.
