GHs will get 1,800 docs, specialists: TN Health minister

He also announced an increase of 100 MBBS seats each in two medical colleges at Tirunelveli.

Chennai: Health minister C.Vijayabaskar on Tuesday announced appointment of over 1,800 doctors including specialists in government hospitals, besides formulation of new cancer and trauma care policy.

He also announced an increase of 100 MBBS seats each in two medical colleges at Tirunelveli and Madurai government medical colleges with initial budget provision of Rs. 53.33 crore.

The minister also said the social welfare index of the state had improved since the death rate of children and mother during delivery had come down drastically.

In his reply to the discussion on demands for grants to health ministry in the Assembly, the minister said health management information system would be strengthened in all medical colleges and attached government hospitals at a cost of Rs.40.85 crore.

The minister said 1,224 M.B.B.S doctors, 600 specialty doctors, 700 staff nurses, 137 assistant surgeons (Siddha, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Yoga and Naturopathy), 333 pharmacists, 1234 lab technicians, 179 ECG Technicians, physiotherapists, X-ray technicians and ophthalmic technicians would be recruited through Medical Services Recruitment Board.

A digital library at Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University would be established at a cost of Rs.26 crore to provide reference materials to all the medical and paramedical students. "Amma health radio service" would be started to provide awareness messages on public health through specialist doctors and experts and take measures during the emergency situations and disasters, he added.
He said state cardiac policy would be developed with an aim to reduce the incidence, morbidity and mortality of cardiovascular diseases. He said state cancer policy would be formulated to achieve one-third reduction in the premature deaths caused by cancer both in the pediatric and adult population by 2030.

Trauma care policy would be developed to define the essential standards required by the state health care system to function as a trauma care centre.

The minister said comprehensive primary health care services which is under implementation in 3 health unit districts at Krishnagiri, Pudukottai and Perambalur would now be expanded to the rest of 39 health unit districts at a cost of Rs.24.74 crore.

Cobalt therapy unit for cancer treatment would be provided to the Government Arignar Anna Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Institute, Kancheepuram and special new born care units would be established in Padmanabapuram, Pattukottai, Periyakulam and Thirumangalam Government Hospitals.

He announced an awareness programme and distribution of Nilavembu Kudineer and said dengue and chikunkunniya prevention activities would be carried out.
He came out with plans for Android mobile phones with mobile application to all the 108 emergency ambulance pilots, five additional human milk banks in addition to the already existing nine banks and extension of online birth certificate scheme in Chennai to all the districts.
