Krishna Pushkaram works at snail's pace
Anantapur: With alleged poor quality and also delay in completion of work for the upcoming Krishna Pushkarams, Kurnool collector Ch. Vijayamohan made a whirlwind visit to various parts of the district on Monday.
Srisailam, Sangameswaram and connecting parts closer to Krishna river in Kurnool district is expected to host devotees from all parts of Rayalaseema, Telangana and Tamil Nadu states for the holy Pushkarams in addition to coastal parts in the state.
Even as the Kurnool collector succeeded in getting huge funds to make elaborate arrangements for the prestigious programme in the wake of stampede during Godavari Pushkarams last year, most of the work was proceeding at snail's pace on excuses of permissions and clearances. Several approach roads were still undone.
Collector Mr Vijayamohan observed much of the work was pending even as the date draws close. Panchayat raj officials brought to the collector's notice that two acres of forest land is still to be levelled for parking of vehicles near Sangameswara Swamy Temple.
Collector directed the PR officials to start the work as the forest department had already cleared the file.
During review with the officials of panchayat raj, irrigation, APTransco and endowment officials, he said that stringent action would be taken against those who fail to complete work in time.
"We planned to complete all works including bathing ghats by the end of July," Mr Vijayamohan said adding that he would inspect the works once in two days till completion of Pushkarams.
Panchayat raj chief engineer Chittibabu, endowment department deputy commissioner Gayatri Devi and R&B superintending engineer Sreenivasa Reddy accompanied the collector.
