CHENNAI: Expressing deep anguish over burning an effigy of Madras high court Chief Justice during demonstration in State, the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry has condemned advocates for engaging in unruly behaviour. A press release signed by D.Selvam, chairman, P.S. Amalraj, vice-chairman and S. Prabakaran, member who is also co-chairman of Bar Council of India, said it was painful to note that some advocates burnt an effigy of the Chief Justice.
The release said the act of advocates was “a clear case of professional misconduct. The State Bar Council will not keep quiet after seeing the continuous atrocious act of the Bar members. The council views the act very seriously and deal with it in a very stringent manner in accordance with law”. It is also brought to the notice of the council that some unruly lawyers were preventing other lawyers from appearing before courts and it amounts to professional misconduct and interference of administration of justice. If anyone prevents lawyers from appearing before courts, it will be viewed seriously and action would be initiated against him or her, the council warned.
Meanwhile, advocates in Madras high court organised a human chain protest outside the court campus under the leadership of secretary, Madras High court Advocates' Association, Arivazhagan and president, Women Lawyers' Association, Nalini. They demanded withdrawal of amendment to rules. Earlier, they took out a procession in the court campus raising slogans.
