AP police felicitate Manavathva Dheeras' for Corona service

The DGP said Andhra Pradesh is expressly issuing passes to all individuals who are rendering such selfless services to the society

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police Gautam Sawang, along with superintendents of police belonging to all 13 districts of the state, on Friday felicitated 50 organisations for their selfless service in providing a dignified last journey to those dying during the Covid-19 pandemic.

All these organisations had voluntarily come forward to ensure that no person, who has succumbed to Coronavirus infection, is deprived of the basic human right of dignity in death.

The dead included those whose bodies were not claimed during both the waves of infection in the state. The DGP and SPs gave these organisations “Manavathva Dheeras” award – Warriors of Humanity.

Speaking at the event, DGP Gautam Sawang said, “While fulfilling our duty to the best of our abilities during the course of both Covid-19 waves, we came across many individuals and organisations that courageously came forward to help those in need despite risk to their lives. They include many nameless and faceless people who chose to remain selfless and anonymous.”

Sawang pointed out that at certain places, these organisations worked shoulder to shoulder with police. They came forward when systems were burdened beyond imagination and bodies were being left unclaimed due to fear of Coronavirus.

The DGP said Andhra Pradesh is expressly issuing passes to all individuals who are rendering such selfless services to the society. He further requested people to come forward and work with police wherever possible.
