Thiruvananthapuram: Four arrested for uploading child porn

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Cyberdome, during the second phase of Operation P-Hunt, has arrested four persons for uploading child pornography to social media sites.

A total of five cases were registered. The raids were conducted at 32 places on June 2.under the supervision of 12 district police chiefs. Mobile phones, laptops, videos and pictures of children were recovered, said ADGP Manoj Abraham who heads the cyberdome. Most of the pictures are of Malayali girls, said Mr Abraham.

The team conducted the raid in close coordination with the Interpol-Crimes against Children Unit and the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (ICMEC), who trained the State Unit apart from providing digital resources to track down suspects viewing, selling and distributing child porn.

During the investigation, it was found that a host of child pornography groups were operating on Facebook, Whatsapp and particularly Telegram, since it had strong encryption and offered greater anonymity.

Many persons from the state were also operating on the internet, viewing and distributing such material.

As per law, viewing, distributing or storing of any child pornographic content is a criminal offense an can result in, up to five years imprisonment and up to Rs 10 lakh fine.
