Kochi: Meds to reach by flight today

A team from the National Institute of Virology, Pune, is being sent to Ernakulam with the Monoclonal Antib-odies.

Kochi: The Human Monoclonal Antibodies, procured from Australia and stored at the Pune National Institute of Virology to fight Nipah virus infection will be brought to Kochi in a special flight on Wednesday.

This was stated by Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan who held a review meeting with health experts at his residence in New Delhi on Tuesday morning. He also spoke to state health minister K.K. Shailaja, and discussed the current situation and assured all support from the Centre.

A six-member Central team reached Kochi by evening for epidemiological investigation protocol, contact tracing for early detection of suspects, testing protocols for suspects and review of isolation facilities.

A team from the National Institute of Virology, Pune, is being sent to Ernakulam with the Monoclonal Antib-odies. Another team from the Institute has also been dispatched for testing bats for Nipah virus. The minister has spoken with DG (Forest) to extend all co-operation in this regard.
