Kochi: 2 booked for fake information on Nipah virus
Kochi: The Ernakulam Central Police has registered cases against two persons for allegedly spreading misinformation regarding the Nipah outbreak in the state.
However, the police refused to divulge the details of the persons who were slapped with relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), IT Act and Kerala Police Act.
"The cases have been registered under non-bailable sections. A probe is on and the accused will be caught soon," an officer with the Central Station said. "The action has been taken as a warning for anyone who post or share wrong and misleading information regarding the disease in facebook."
The cyber experts in the police department are continuously checking the social media.
The accounts suspected to have spread the misinformation are also under scanner.
Meanwhile, the City Police Commissioner S Surendran has warned stringent actions against those who spread any kind of misinformation on the present situation.
