Kaleshwaram set to ease farmers’ woes
Bhupalpalli Jayashankar: Farmers' woes are about to end with the completion of the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said on Tuesday while conducting a review meeting with officials here on Tuesday.
Mr Rao said that people of Telangana had a lot of hopes on the project and were looking forward to its completion. For decades, farmers had been facing problems due to poor supply of water for irrigation.
The state government initiated several projects to supply water for one crore acres. It has constructed several irrigation projects such as the Palamuru-Rangareddy, Kaleshwaram, Sitarama lift irrigation scheme. Kaleshwaram is very important, Mr Rao said.
The project aims to supply water to the farm sector, industries and for drinking water needs of about 80 per cent of the districtse. Once the project is completed, Telangana state will b fertile, he said.
Mr Rao said to complete a mega project like Kaleshwaram, it takes about 15 to 20 years, but the TRS government, in a span of two and a half years, had completed the construction works of important barrages and pump houses to lift water from the river Godavari to supply for irrigation needs.
