Hyderabad: Gadwal collector jailed for contempt

Officials of the Karimnagar municipality demolished the house and 13 mulgies as part of widening the road.

Hyderabad: Taking a serious view of public servants disrespecting court orders, Justice A. Rajasheker Reddy convicted IAS officer K. Shashank, formerly commissioner of the Karimnagar municipality, to one-month simple imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 25,000 from his purse for contempt of court. Mr Shashank is currently the Gadwal district collector.

The contempt petition was filed by Ms Punna Kaur, 75, who had constructed a house and 13 mulgies in Sikhwadi in Karimnagar after obtaining permission from the municipality and paid taxes.

Officials of the Karimnagar municipality demolished the house and 13 mulgies as part of widening the road. Ms Kaur approached the HC which directed the civic body in 2015 to allot her the shops which were demolished within three months. In the event of non-allotment of shops, the municipal commissioner shall pay Ms Kaur the compensation as per rules, the court had ordered.

Mr Shashank was the municipal commissioner when the court gave its order. The court order was never implemented.
