CPI may discuss S Sudhakar Reddy offer to resign on health reasons

Reddy is understood to have informed the central secretariat that he was not keen on continuing in the post because of health problems.

Thiruvananthapuram: The national council of CPI scheduled to be held in Delhi on June 19, 20 and 21 is likely to discuss the offer made by general secretary S. Sudhakar Reddy to step down from his position owing to health reasons.

Mr Reddy is understood to have informed the central secretariat that he was not keen on continuing in the post because of health problems.

He was elected general secretary of the party in 2012 and his current tenure ends in 2021. But he wants to call it a day citing health issues.

While majority of the party leaders want him to continue till the next party Congress, Mr Reddy seems to be insisting on relieving him from the post.

It is in this backdrop that the names of D.Raja, Atul Kumar Anjan, Amarjit Kaur and Binoy Viswam are being considered for the post.

Apart from Sudhakar Reddy's issue, the national council will also review the electoral setback suffered by the party across the country. The party could win only two seats in Tamil Nadu.
