Congress says local polls results show party is reviving in Telangana

Out the 538 ZPTCs, the TRS won in 445, the Congress 75, BJP 8 and others 5.

Hyderabad: It is also a setback to the Opposition Congress and BJP which together had won seven LS seats.

Out the 538 ZPTCs, the TRS won in 445, the Congress 75, BJP 8 and others 5.

According to the results declared by the State Election Commission so far, the TRS won 3,557 out of the 5,816 MPTCs on offer, the Congress 1,377, BJP 211 and TD 21. Others were elected in 636 seats. Polls to 158 MPTCs and 4 ZPTCs were unopposed.

Recalling that the Opposition had made various comments after the Lok Sabha polls, Mr Rama Rao said the people’s verdict was final and that nothing was permanent in politics.

He was referring to the comments made by BJP and Congress leaders after the TRS’ poor showing in the Lok Sabha polls.

Reacting to the outcome of the polls, the Congress said it had proved its existence and strength across Telangana state.

TPCC treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy said the results could not be considered as a sweep by the TRS as the Congress has put up a tough fight in all seats.

“The Congress has won significant number of seats and lost many other seats by small margins despite the fact that TRS has openly misused the official machinery, money power and liquor,” he said.

“The Election Commis-sion completely ignored our complaints and TRS leaders were allowed to violate the model code of conduct,” the Congress leader alleged. “The TRS has used intimidation as a tool to get the support of voters in rural areas,” he said.

“The results of Lok Sabha elections have shown that the Congress is on its way to back to power. It has won three seats and lost three others with a small margin. The Congress has regained control over half of the state and it would revive itself,” he said.
