Chennai: Ganja over Rs 3 crores seized, two arrested
Chennai: Over 85 kilograms of ganja worth Rs 3 crore had been seized from a national permit vehicle in SIPCOT, Sri Perumbudur on Monday night, two north Indians were arrested in connection with this, police said.
According to the sources, based on a tip-off, that huge contingent of contraband was transported from SIPCOT to the Northern states, a special vehicle check drive was carried out by a police team headed by Sri Perumbudur ASP Rajesh Khanna on Monday night.
During the search operation, the officials intercepted a national permit lorry that came to pick up automobiles spare parts from the Sipcot. On searching, the vehicle police found 10 brown packages of ganja on near the driver seat. The Contraband products worth Rs 3 crore were seized and the lorry was confiscated.
Two men identified as Pawan Kumar( 34) and his brother Om Veer ( 29) hailing from Haryana district were detained for investigations. However, inquiries with the men revealed the connection of a four-member gang in the contraband smuggling.
The Sri Perumbudur police registered a case and launched a men hunt for the four-membered gang. Furthur inquiries are underway.
