“Many state board students who have devoted one full year to Neet coaching done well this year,” career consultant Jayaprakash A.Gandhi said.

“Compared to last year over 12,000 more students from the state qualified in this year. It would definitely impact the cut-off marks for joining MBBS course,” he said.

“Last year the cut-off for OC category students was 385. It could increase around 400 marks this year. The cut-off of BC category also could go up from 325 to 380 this year,” he said adding that the performance of MBC students was also much better compared to last year.

Last time the cut-off for MBC was 250 marks and it could move up. Similarly, the cut-off for SC category also could over go upto 200 marks this year.

“We cannot compare the performance of our students with that of Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh students as they always had an entrance exam for admitting students into medical courses. After a gap of 10 years, we had Neet based admission only last year,” he opined.

A spokesperson for the Aakash Coaching Centre said this year there is a considerable increase in the number of students scoring above 400 marks in Neet this year.

The super schools in Namakkal also had many students scoring above 400 marks this year.

“One student from our school has scored 554 out of 720 marks this year. We had totally 16 students who scored above 400 marks,” P.Swaminathan, secretary, SRV schools in Namakkal and Tiruchy.

Out of 16 students, only 3 of them are old students and rest of them are current students.

He further said the cut-off marks to medical courses might increase by 5 per cent to 10 per cent this year.

One of the students from Green Park School has scored over 610 marks in Neet and around 40 students scored over 450 marks this year.
