Liquor brought into Telangana illegally
Hyderabad: The Prohibition and Excise officials claim that crooks have been transporting imported liquor from Goa into the state using loaded trucks, cars and private transport, which makes it difficult for the police to track.
Pavan Kumar, assistant superintendent prohibition and excise, Malkajgiri said, “Most of the times, it is tourists who are involved in this. A person is supposed to carry only two bottles of liquor per head from a state. However, these crooks buy bottles in large numbers and take private buses, trains, or personal vehicles, where checking is not done and if found they are let off with a warning.”
Goa liquor sale is prohibited in Telangana. However, crooks sell it for 20 to 30 per cent less, without the notice of the government. For example, a Teacher Highland is Rs 1,650 and is sold for Rs 1,200 here. “An accused caught for such an act, is booked under Section 34 (a) of IPC and if convicted, face 10 to 12 years jail with fine amount of Rs 1 lakh, or as decided by the court,” said Mr Kumar.
