Hyderabad: Life Insurance Corporation of India chairman V.K. Sharma on Monday lauded Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s welfare measures for farmers and termed him a “the only one visionary in India” for launching the '5-lakh free insurance scheme.

The LIC chairman said he had travelled the length and breadth of the country on his various job assignments but had never seen a chief minister like Mr Rao who thought of farmers’ prosperity with unique schemes like Rythu Bandhu and free insurance by spending Rs 12,000 crore per year.

“I come from a farmer family. My father has been a farmer, my grandfather has been a farmer. I have served at places from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Somnath to Silchar. Nowhere else I could find so many schemes for farmers. This is the first time I am coming across such a unique scheme where somebody has thought about prosperity of the farmers.”

Everybody pushes the farmers into debts by by giving easy loans. There is only one visionary leader today in the country who has really put his heart for the prosperity of the farmer and that is Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao. He is a real ‘rythu bandhu’,” he said.

The LIC chairman was addressing a meeting at HICC after signing an MoU with state government to implement the free insurance scheme. “Getting the chance to implement this scheme is a real privilege for us,” Mr Sharma said.
