Civic body's beat plastic' fight falls flat in Saidabad

Piled up with plastic covers, broken trees & leftover vegetables from market lie near a transformer, making the route nothing short of a nightmare.

Hyderabad: While the GHMC is on a #BeatPlasticPollution campaign, the compound wall attached to the Mandannapet market at Saidabad stands as a bad example of piling up of garbage.

Piled up with plastic covers, broken trees and leftover vegetables from the market lie near a transformer, making the route nothing short of a nightmare.

Whenever it rains, the lane which is frequently used by pedestrians becomes difficult to travel. Onlookers allege that this apathy from officials and members of the market committee is not only causing inconvenience but is also a health hazard.

A techie said, “The same horrible situation is persisting for three weeks, and the garbage is only increasing. When it rains it becomes unhealthy. It is an entrance which many pedestrians use. A permanent solution is needed and market authorities, residents and GHMC officials should come together.”

However, a GHMC official said that the issue was being attended to. He said that while the market is being cleaned the garbage is dumped in the surrounding area.

“We will be cleaning the place regularly and taking up the issue with the market committee after a meeting with the zonal commissioner. We will issue notices if required to prevent garbage dumping on the road,” the official said.
