Met M Karunanidhi to greet, not for poll ties: S Ramadoss

Dr Ramadoss said on Sunday he was clear about his party's objectives.

Chennai: Putting to rest speculation over his sudden meeting with DMK chief M. Karunanidhi, PMK founder Dr S. Ramadoss said he greeted “Kalaignar on his 94th birthday and for completing 60 years as legislator “out of political decency” and not for forging electoral ties with the Dravidian major.

His sudden meeting with Mr Karunanidhi triggered speculation that the Pattali Makkal Katchi was making overtures to clinch a poll alliance with the opposition DMK.

Dr Ramadoss said on Sunday he was clear about his party's objectives.
“I had called on the DMK chief and my friend Kalaignar on June 1 to extend my greetings on his birthday. I was received cordially...The meeting was not to discuss poll ties,” he said.

There is no change in his party's stand and he was "clear" that the PMK would not forge electoral ties with DMK or the ruling AIADMK. “We have not deviated from our objective of establishing non-Dravidian rule in the state and we are very firm on this… Personal friendship is different from politics," he added.
