Conserve nature and reap reward, says Kiran Bedi

The Lt Governor who uses a bicycle for her weekend visits said that she is cycling not only promotes the fitness of the body.

Puducherry: Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi exhorted people to conserve nature as nature gives rich dividends in return.

The Lt Governor, who dedicated her weekend visit to promote environmental awareness by cycling from Raj Nivas to Tirukanji Village on the eve of world environment day, said that the people should cultivate the tradition to worship and respect nature as done by the ancestors.

“We should do our own to promote environmentally-friendly measures in all that we do”, said Ms Bedi.

The Lt Governor who uses a bicycle for her weekend visits said that she is cycling not only promotes the fitness of the body, but it was also the most environmental-friendly mode to commute.

On the occasion, she planted saplings on the land belonging to the Ganga Varahanateehswarar temple in Tirukanchi along with the villagers and later offered prayers, an official release said.

Before leaving for a weekend visit, the Lt Governor flagged off a cycle rally from the Main Gate of Raj Nivas that had been arranged on the eve of World Environment Day under CSR initiative. She gifted a sapling to each of the volunteers to promote the concept of ‘one family, one tree’.

The Lt Governor would also participate in the sapling plantation event organised by the forest department on world environment day (Tomorrow) in which
5,000 saplings would be planted.
