6-fold jump in rides: Bengaluru Metro scorches
Bengaluru: After the inauguration of east-west corridor from Byappanahalli to Mysuru Road on April 30, the ridership in Namma Metro has increased six folds on this particular stretch. Prior to that the average ridership on the line 1 (Byappanahalli to M.G Road) was 18,000 passengers and line 2, from Sampige to Nagasandra, was 33, 661. But after Line 1 was extended to Mysuru Road, the average ridership has surged to 110,000 passengers, while in Line 2 also it has increased to 40,671.
During morning peak hours the ridership is 9,234 passengers and in the evening it is 14,380. Interestingly, the highest travel day till date has been May 15 (1,29,752 passengers).
As for the travel pattern, during morning hours 59 per cent of people travel from Mysuru Road to Byappanahalli and 41 per cent from Byappanahalli to Mysuru Road, while during evenings it is the reverse.
BMTC has arranged for feeder services between Kempegowda station and Sampige, Mysore Road and Hosakerahalli and Swami Vivekananda Road and ITPL, Whitefield.
