Kozhikode: Muslim Educational Society president Dr P.A. Fasal Gafoor has approached the police complaining of life threats over his circular banning face-covering dress on its campuses. “I have received many calls threatening to withdraw the circular, or else my life would be in danger,” he told DC.
His complaint to the city police commissioner and the Nadakkavu police also says a fake Facebook page had come up in his name "apparently to put fuel in the fire".
“I do not have an FB account. A new fake page was created in my name on Thursday, apparently to use my name against religious scholars,” he said.
"I'm not into criticising religious leaders. I am ready for a ceasefire. These are ideological differences which have been prevalent for long. I am not for an encounter with Samastha over the issue.”
At the same time, the MES chief ruled out withdrawal of the circular, which Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, the biggest religious body of Muslims in Kerala, had condemned.
