Focus on waste removal; check spread of diseases: C Raveendranath

The heads of the local bodies should take the initiative in spreading the message of cleanliness and sanitation at the grass-roots level, he said.

Kochi: Education Minister C. Raveendranath has called for preventing the spread of communicable and other diseases by focusing on waste removal programme. Inaugurating a workshop in Kochi on Saturday ahead of the preparation for pre-monsoon cleaning and sanitation programme, he stressed on the need for environmental and body cleanliness for a healthy life.

The heads of the local bodies should take the initiative in spreading the message of cleanliness and sanitation at the grass-roots level, he said.

“We should make clear that the message has been passed on to each individual in every household”, he said. The comprehensive state-level sanitation and cleanliness drive planned on May 11 and 12 should be implemented in a constructive manner.

The local bodies should report the level of pollution and contamination of water bodies in their respective areas to the health department. The minister also called for keeping a watch on domestic animals and birds to keep a check on contagious diseases.

Deputy district medical officer Dr S Sreedevi presented the report. MLAs M. Swaraj, Eldhose Kunnappally deputy collector P. D. Sheeladevi, Suchithva Mission district coordinator Jay P. Balan and others attended the workshop.
