Charminar set to go off limits for vehicles

The automated hydraulic bollards will be operated during VIP and VVIP vehicle movement and fixed on four sides of the iconic structure.

Hyderabad: The GHMC has started fixing bollards near the iconic structure under the Charminar Pedestrian Project (CPP). The bollards will hinder vehicle movement permanently within 200 metres radius of the structure. The civic body will fix 125 permanent bollards and 28 automated hydraulic bollards at a cost of `23.80 crore.

The automated hydraulic bollards will be operated during VIP and VVIP vehicle movement and fixed on four sides of the iconic structure. The other bollards will be fixed permanently. During the first phase, the bollards will be fixed in Gulzar Houz and Mecca Masjid, Laad Bazar and Sardar Mahal in the second phase and in bylanes in the final phase.

GHMC additional commi-ssioner Musharraf Faruq-ui inspected the project and said that installing bollards will help protecting the iconic structure by diverting as many as 10,000 vehicles. He said that the GHMC will convert Sardar Mahal into a museum.
