Bengaluru: Jayadeva flyover demolition from May-end

BMRCL officials said the demolition process will take up to three months.

Bengaluru: BMRCL will take up the demolition of the busy Jayadeva flyover, to make way for Namma Metro inter-change station, in a phased manner by the end of this month.

BMRCL officials revealed that initially they will demolish the flyover loop that links Bannerghatta Road with the Central Silk Board. Later they will take up the demolition of the main lanes of this 12-year-old flyover.

BMRCL officials said the demolition process will take up to three months. A corporation official said that work was not taken up earlier because they were waiting for 300 construction workers to return from their home towns, as many of them have gone to cast their votes.

They wanted to speedily execute the demolition so that nearby residents and regular commuters are not inconvenienced.

“It is one of the busiest roads and even a small change will lead to a problem for commuters. Now the BMRCL has decided to bring down the flyover, this will cause lot of inconvenience for the public. They must finish it at earliest," said Shankar K.L., a commuter.

To minimise inconvenience to motorists the Corporation has already shared its plan with the traffic police department to work out on alternate routes.

MICO Layout Traffic Police have already introduced traffic diversion on the service road for vehicles moving towards Gurappanapalya.

A BMRCL official told Deccan Chronicle, “The demolition work is being taken up by a Delhi-based agency. For the first time in the city, advanced crunchers will be used to demolish the structure. This will help speed up the work."

As per the BMRCL proposal, the junction will be remodelled to accommodate an elevated road and interchange metro station of Reach 5 metro line from R.V. Road to Bommasandra and Reach 6 from Gottigere to Nagawara.

There will be six levels of infrastructure at the junction. The first will be an underpass from Bannerghatta Road towards Dairy Circle. On level two, there will be a road from Ragigudda towards

Silk Board, and in the same direction, an elevated road also will be built at the third level.

On the fourth level, a metro concourse will be provided for Reach 5 and Reach 6 metro lines. Level five will have a metro line from R.V. Road to Bommasandra, while the sixth level will have Reach 6 from Gottigere to Nagawara Line.
