Man threatens to commit suicide at Kochi airport
Kochi: Dramatic scenes were witnessed at the Cochin International Airport Ltd here on Friday morning when a passenger, suspected to be mentally unstable, climbed atop a multi-storey building there and threatened to commit suicide. Suresh (48), a native of Poonthura in Thiruvananthapuram, reached the airport to catch the IndiGo flight to Thiruvananthapuram, scheduled to depart at 9.35 am.
"He had flown in from Riyadh in Saudi Arabia on Thursday and reached the airport at 9 am today to catch the flight to the state capital. However, after taking boarding pass, he suddenly screamed out and ran out of departure terminal," said an airport official.
The CISF personnel caught him as he cried out that goons were chasing him. As the sleuths tried to calm him, he brushed them apart and took to heels again towards the air-cargo side. The man climbed atop the three-storey building housing the duty-free shop and threatened to jump, the official said.
The Nedumbassery police too reached the spot, however, he demanded that he wanted to speak to the collector and the chief minister. The cops finally convinced him to speak to a group of media personnel at the spot and brought him down by 10.30 am. He was then taken to the hospital and from there to police station. "His relatives were summoned and the man was sent along with them in the afternoon. No case was registered," police said.
