Malayali nurse in Yemen death row seeks state help
KOCHI: Nimisha Priya, a native of Kollenkode in Palakkad district sentenced to death in Yemen for allegedly murdering a Yemenese national, has sought the help of the state government in seeking clemency from authorities in Yemen. In a detailed letter to the government, the woman, currently lodged in a jail for death row prisoners in the Arab country, said that she was forced to take the extreme step as a result of unbearable torture and harassment. She was working as a nurse in Yemen.
According to details given in the letter, the woman said she opened a nursing clinic along with a local national identified as Talal Abdu Mahdi. The woman said that Talal took the entire income from the clinic running into millions and seized her passport preventing her from leaving the country. He was also threatening to subject her to sexual relationships, the letter said.
Nimisha also alleged Talal had fabricated a false marriage certificate and spread information that both of them were a married couple. He also charged the person of stealing her gold ornaments. The woman was facing the charges of killing Talal and concealing the dead body in a water tank on top of her house. According to the information in the letter the woman along with the murdered Yemen national started the clinic in 2014.
