Karur: Cops foil man's suicide bid from bridge railing

Passersby who noticed the man's desperate act, alerted both the local Police and the Fire and Rescue services personnel.

Karur: Tension prevailed for a while at Old Amaravathi river bridge area at Karur on Friday, when a 43-year-old man attempted to commit suicide by hanging from the railing over one of the bridge's pillars, following a domestic quarrel at home.

On information, Fire and Rescue services department personnel rushed to the spot, rescued the man and admitted him to the Karur government hospital.

Police said, Murugasen of Thirumanilaiyur, a painter by profession, was in an inebriated condition and had attempted to end his life by hanging himself with an old sari tied to the railing at the 18th pillar post of the bridge.

Passersby who noticed the man’s desperate act, alerted both the local Police and the Fire and Rescue services personnel, who in turn rushed to the spot and aborted his suicide bid.
