Hubballi: Union information and broadcasting minister Smriti Irani hit the campaign trail for Ballari MP and the BJP candidate for Badami, B. Sriramulu in the constituency on Friday.
She took part in the roadshow in Guledagudd town on Friday along with thousands of party workers and promised that the BJP will waive the loans of weavers who constitute a large chunk of votes in the constituency. Criticising the state government over the large number of farmer suicides in Karnataka, she said her party, after coming to power, will take a decision in the first Cabinet meeting itself to waive off the loans taken by them from nationalized banks.
Earlier, Smriti campaigned for BJP candidates in Navalgund and Nargund towns. Asserting that there was no safety for women in Karnataka, she said women police officials themselves were facing security threats. Accusing the ruling Congress party of plundering the funds released by the Central government to Karnataka for development, she said the BJP will work for the welfare of farmers and the poor if voted to power.
Empty chairs at kagwad rally, miffed BSY steams in chopper
The BJP's Chief Ministerial candidate, B.S. Yeddyurappa faced embarrassing moments at Kagwad on Friday as he was forced to sit in his helicopter for more than half-an-hour after only a few people gathered for his rally in the afternoon. When his copter landed at Kagwad, Yeddyurappa got down at the venue along with Belagavi MP Suresh Angadi, MLAs Raju Kage and Laxman Savadi. The former CM was upset on finding that most of the chairs were empty with attempts still on by party activists to gather more people for the rally. The BJP's Raju Kage, a four-time MLA from Kagwad, is involved in a close clash with Srimant Patil of the Congress this time.
