Hyderabad: 'Minorities Welfare Board' fails to take up repairs

The mosque is under the control of the Minorities Welfare Department and its maintenance is taken care of by the government.

Hyderabad: The Shahi Masjid Bagh-e-Aam – Royal Mosque Public Gardens – is craving for funds in the run up to the holy month of Ramzan.

The mosque is under the control of the Minorities Welfare Department and its maintenance is taken care of by the government. The upkeep of two mosques in the city, has been entrusted with the department.

A namazi, Ahmed, complained that the washrooms were in a bad condition and the taps were not working. “Over the last decade, the carpets have not been replaced, though the government promised to maintain the mosque on par with international standards. People pooled in money for repairs,” he said.

Another visitor said, “Before Ramzan, officials visit mosques to inspect them. But there have been none so far.”

When asked, Mohammed Saleem, chairman, TS Wakf Board said that he would be visiting the mosque on Saturday to get a firsthand account of the conditions at the mosque.
