Chennai: Chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Friday released revised text books for classes 1,6,9 and 11 at a function held here at the state secretariat. Upgraded visual representations, internet activity pages with web and mobile links and provision of colourful pictorials for the young students were the latest attractions in the new books.
A total of 177 titles have been printed covering the four classes and more impetus was given to environment, pollution, logical thinking and ethical education at lower grades.
In case of books for class 11, commerce, biology and computer science had been revised under core subject titles. The second phase of revision for new syllabus-based texts will be in for 2019 and books for classes II, VII, X and XII will be rolled out, education department sources said.
School education minister K. A. Sengottaiyan who was also present on the occasion introduced the panelists who were instrumental in bringing the revised syllabus that had been pending for several years.
He also released a CD on the new syllabus books. State Council for Educational Research and Training took more than six months to prepare the new books under revised syllabus. Over 60 teams involved in writing, editing and designing the books.
The new books incorporated with innovations like thematic approach and the QR code to give video lessons to the students. According to sources about 80 lakh copies are to be printed for the next few days and the books will reach all the government schools by next month.
Earlier in the day, Palaniswami took part in the 175th anniversary celebrations of Panchayaippas College and urged the students to excel in academics and do not get distracted with social media and cinema.
In another function chief minister Palaniswami inaugurated 688 new tenements constructed by the slum clearance board and Tamil Nadu housing department at a cost of Rs 44.45 crore. Deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam and chief secretary Girija Vaidyanathan also took part in the event.
