Bengaluru: Torn pages of holy book found near Vidhana Soudha

Religious leaders call for calm. Police on lookout for trouble makers.

Bengaluru: In an attempt to incite communal tension, an unidentified mischief monger dumped hundreds of torn pages of the holy book on the footpaths of Vidhana Soudha on Thursday.

While a complaint was lodged at the Vidhana Soudha police station and the police are on the lookout for the mischief-monger, religious leaders have appealed to the public to keep calm and let the police do their job.

The complainant, a 32-year-old electrician from Venkateshpura, said that he was on his bike with his sister when he noticed hundreds of torn pages of the holy book on the footpath.

"Around 3.30 pm, we were heading to a college to get admission for our nephew. There were hundreds of pages scattered on the footpath of Ambedkar Veedhi near Gopal Gowda Circle. I found them to be pages from the holy book," he told the police. He said that a gardener working at the Vidhana Soudha lawn told him that a man threw the papers from a moving bus on the footpath.

Many people had gathered at the site and took photos and recorded the videos which went viral.

The Vidhana Soudha police registered an FIR under Section 295 (Injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) and investigating. The police are now analysing the CCTV footage.
