Telangana: Supply of sugar to PDS stopped
Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has withdrawn supply of sugar to BPL families through ration shops.
A decision to this effect was taken by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday after a meeting held with civil supplies minister Etala Rajender and officials at Pragathi Bhavan.
The minister brought to the notice of the Chief Minister about the Centre withdrawing subsidy on sugar distributed through ration shops recently.
With this, the price of sugar supplied through ration shops is on par with the price in open market.
“In this backdrop, sugar will not be supplied to the ration shops. The state government has no option but to implement the Centre’s decision,” said an official release issued by CMO.
With this, the ration shops will now be confined to supplying rice.
Till now, ration shops were supplying rice, sugar and kerosene.
However, kerosene supplies too were halted in ration shops with no takers due to Deepam LPG connections for the poor.
