Telangana in overdrive to be pothole-free
Hyderabad: The May 31 deadline set by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for concerned officials to make all roads pothole-free in the state, or face suspension, has put ministers and officials on notice.
The Roads & Buildings department and Panchayat Raj and Rural Development department are responsible for maintaining roads from village level to state-capital level, barring roads in municipal corporations and municipalities, which are maintained by local bodies.
Mr Rao said he would tour districts after June 1 to inspect roads and if he finds potholes anywhere, the concerned officials will be suspended on the spot. R&B minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao is busy holding meetings with department officials to discuss ways to meet the deadline.
PR&RD minister Jupally Krishna Rao has already held a series of meetings with department officials and told them to draw up an action plan to meet the May 31 deadline.
“This is a challenging task given by the CM to our department. We all should rise to the occasion and ensure pothole-free roads that fall under our jurisdiction.
Right from sarpanches at village-level to zilla parishad chairmen at district-level, everyone should be involved in this mission and guide the officials and staff in meeting the target. Any negligence on the part of anyone will not be tolerated,” Mr Krishna Rao said.
The two concerned departments have begun a survey of potholed and damaged roads in all districts, but whether they can complete the repair work in a month’s time remains to be seen.
