Telangana: Attack on e-Nam office planned, suspects police

The police, who viewed all CCTV footage, noticed five persons ransacking the e-Nam furniture, particularly the computers.

Khammam: There seems to be a hidden agenda of traders and commission agents behind the attack on e-Nam office that took place minutes after the Khammam market was ransacked.

The police, who viewed all CCTV footage, noticed five persons ransacking the e-Nam furniture, particularly the computers.

The e-Nam office is located far from the present chilli yard and the angry farmers had never entered the place. The attack on the e-Nam office took place about 30 minutes of the ransack incident in chilli yard.

The government introduced e-Nam transactions for cotton this year. It was met with lots of resistance from traders and commission agents, and they created trouble during the implementation of the system.

At one stage, traders boycotted e-Nam purchase of cotton and tried to threaten officials. However, the government remained firm and warned the persons trying to create disruptions in the system.

Trader B. Hemanth Rao said they fear that their existence would be at risk if the system was extended to other crops such as chilli, grain and pulses.

With this, these trading groups are making efforts to hit the system by resorting to any other practice. Sources said these persons utilised the chilli market incident and, in the guise of the farming community, ransacked e-Nam computers and furniture.

A marketing official, on condition of anonymity, said persons involved in the ransack damaged the computers first.

“If the police is sincere enough, it won’t be difficult to identify the real culprits behind the incident,” the official said.
