Siddaramaiah to cops: No nexus with realtors please

The CM asked policemen to reform their way of functioning so that people would feel like approaching them when in distress.

BENGALURU: In a clear warning to police officials, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has asked them to desist from striking a nexus with the real estate lobby and warned of stringent action if they are found involved in any real estate transaction.

"There are complaints that a few police officials are working hand in glove with the real estate mafia and helping them in land deals. No police official should get involved in any real estate business or deal," Siddaramaiah warned police officials in his address after inaugurating the newly constructed Whitefield police station and office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Whitefield division on Thursday.

The CM asked policemen to reform their way of functioning so that people would feel like approaching them when in distress. "Having advanced technologies, infrastructure and facilities are of no use if people feel uncomfortable while interacting with cops. Police should be people-friendly," he reminded.

The CM further asked police officials to keep a close tab on criminals and their activities in their jurisdiction to curb crimes.

Union minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda who was present, said that there were instances of political interference in policing and cases where the investigation was not being carried out in an unbiased manner. "We assumed that with the adoption of new technologies, the crime rate would come down but crimes have actually increased," he said.

Whitefield, Kadugodi, KR Puram, Mahadevapura, Marathahalli, Bellandur, Varthur and HAL police stations will come under Whitefield police division.
