Kerala CM shows support for MP Joyce
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has come out in support of Idukki MP Joyce George caught in the Kottakamboor land dispute.
Mr Vijayan while speaking in the assembly on Thursday on discussions on demand for grants for the revenue department said Mr George had not bought even a single piece of land there. He just inherited it from his father.
Mr Vijayan said that it was not proper to raise allegations against him as he is not a member of the assembly. Revenue minister E. Chandrasekharan said the Munnar eviction would go on at any cost.
Earlier, while replying to an adjournment motion on the drought the situation in the state, Mr Chandrasekharan pointed out the Union government has decided to increase the worker-days under MGNREGA scheme by 50 days, which will now be fixed at 150.
Water resources minister Mathew T. Thomas said 235 of 260 the borewell-based small scale drinking water projects planned had been commissioned.
Earlier, while raising the issue through a submission, Adoor Prakash of the Congress pointed out that the government had failed to tackle the drought situation in the state.
However, the revenue minister countered the allegations, saying that the opposition was politicising the issue. Earlier while the question hour was in progress, opposition members put up banners wanting to know who the real police chief was.
This was following the failure of the government to reinstate DGP T P Senkumar even after the Supreme Court verdict in his favour.
