The fate of 488 industries in the Bellandur valley will be decided at a meeting to be chaired by the chief secretary on Friday.

BENGALURU: The fate of 488 industries in the Bellandur valley will be decided at a meeting to be chaired by the chief secretary on Friday.

The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board which received the National Green Tribunal's (NGT) order on Bellandur lake recently, is contemplating closing down all 488 industries in the area in one go. All the agencies-BBMP, BDA, KSPCB and Lake Development Authority which are responsible for rejuvenating and restoring the lake, will take part in the meeting.

Speaking to DC, an official said "We have received the NGT order recently and are gearing up to close down all 488 industries in the valley." But the final decision will be taken at the meeting chaired by the chief secretary with all concerned agencies."

The KSPCB which was initially planning to close down only highly polluting industries in Bellandur valley is now planning to impose a blanket ban on all industries.

Sridhar Pabbisetty, CEO of Namma Bengaluru Foundation said that citizens of Bengaluru expect the government to be much more proactive and save lakes of Bengaluru and rejuvenate them. He pointed out that the rampant encroachment of lakes by builders is a direct consequence of the government's inability to protect lakes.
