When Siddaramaiah arrives on a visit, Whitefield wears a new look!

The Chief Minister should therefore dedicate half of his time to the development of the city, he felt.

BENGALURU: Whitefield suddenly wore a spruced up look on Thursday and the reason was not hard to find. The chief minister was scheduled to arrive in the area to inaugurate the newly built Whitefield police station and no one, civic officials included, wanted to incur his wrath.

So the pothole-ridden roads suddenly disappeared overnight which made urban expert R.K. Misra remark that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah must visit localities in Bengaluru more often. "If broken roads and potholes are sure to get fixed prior to the chief minister's visit, then he should be travelling on Bengaluru roads frequently. At least, the roads will get fixed in the manner," Mr Misra quipped and added that over 50 per cent of the taxes paid to the state government are from Bengaluru.

The Chief Minister should therefore dedicate half of his time to the development of the city, he felt.

Mr Misra however felt that overnight makeover of roads hides the real picture from the visiting leader and may even give a false impression that huge money allotted for the improvement of roads in Bengaluru is heading in the right direction! He demanded a proper mechanism to monitor the allocation of funds and the execution of work.
