AICC holds back DCC chiefs' list

AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh withdrew the list of DCC presidents' names.

Hyderabad: AICC has held back appointing the District Congress Committee presidents, though broad consensus was reached at a meeting in AICC headquarters on Thursday.

After the list was ready and sent for AICC president Sonia Gandhi’s approval, AICC organisational elections Chief Returning Officer and former Union minister M. Ramachandran pointed out that since elections to various posts in the party have been notified and the Election Commission informed of this, fresh appointments cannot be allowed at this stage. He said that any appointments could only be done after completion of entire poll process, in September-October, 2017.

Following this, AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh withdrew the list of DCC presidents’ names.

As per the latest decision, only those DCC chiefs serving at the time of the beginning of the poll process will stay in office. This means that the DCC presidents for 10 old districts in Telangana instead of present 31 districts will remain in their posts till the process ends.

The AICC, meanwhile, rejected the resignations of Hyderabad City Congress Committee president Danam Nagender and Ranga Reddy District Committee president Kyama Mallesh after the Congress’ worst defeat in the GHMC polls last year.

Meanwhile, the T-Congress leadership was besieged with calls from anxious aspirants after this newspaper published a the list of DCC presidents on whom consensus had emerged.

TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy received over 100 calls, said sources.
