AICC cautions Telangana Congress about state BJP's ambitions

AICC leaders have alerted the Telangana Congress leadership not to be complacent regarding BJP political activity in the state.

Hyderabad: AICC leaders have alerted the Telangana Congress leadership not to be complacent regarding BJP political activity in the state in the backdrop of the TRS government adopting the enhanced Backward Muslims quota Bill which the Congress has extended support.

At a meeting held in the AICC headquarters in New Delhi on Thursday, AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh, secretary R.C. Kuntia and AICC SC/ST cell chairman Koppula Raju specifically asked the TPCC leadership to be alert of the BJP’s plans to polarise the Hindu vote in TS taking the Muslim quota Bill as a base.

Mr Singh told the TPCC team, comprising N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, K. Jana Reddy, Mohd. Ali Shabbir and Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, that the AICC was aware that the BJP was trying to become a political alternative to the TRS in the state.

As such, the Muslim quota Bill is being given more weightage by the BJP, hence Congress leaders should counter the BJP moves, he said.

“We were told not only to more aggressively spread the Congress agenda, but also counter the BJP which is trying to divide the society in the name of religion. We told the AICC leaders that we will be more vigilant and counter the BJP,” Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy told DC.

He said they explained to the AICC the various activities taken up the T-Congress leaders recently through agitations to reach out to the masses.

He said what the TS BJP leaders were presently engaged in was only to please their party’s national president Amit Shah, but in reality, they do not have the cadre to become a political alternative in the state.
